USEFUL
TIPS |
A Harnois
shelter for car is the ideal solution for the owner who
doesn't like the troubles of winter.
However, certain rules and standards must be followed, so
the use is without risk and safe.
- Never allow for snow to build-up on top of the shelter.
- Close the doors at both ends of the shelter, to avoid damages that wind may cause.
- Anchor your shelter to the ground with the proper anchors, stakes, cable wires, windsecure kit or permanancres. Clamp anchors are never sufficient.
- Regularly, check and tighten wing nuts, ropes and anchors so that the tarp does not become loose.
- It is not recommended to install two shelters side by side; you must leave at least 4 feet between each shelter to be able to remove the snow.
- Do not insert any wood pieces, vinyl strips or anything else between the cover and the frame, it may hold back snow on top and cause excessive weight, weaken the seams and cause wear and tear to the cover.
- Do not use cable ties to hold the cover on the structure. Always use 3/16’’ polytwist rope.
- When storing your shelter, make sure that your tarp (cover) is dry and free of dirt. If there is an accumulation of dirt, use a biodegradable tarp cleaner. Spray, wait a few minutes, scrub lightly, rinse and let dry. Your tarp is ready to be put away for the summer. Store your tarp away from direct sunlight, never store a dirty and damp tarp
- If your tarp needs repairs, you can bring it to any Harnois distributor before storing it for the summer. Our distributor will do an estimation of repairs.
- Do
not leave a vehicle with the motor running inside
the shelter.
- A flap should never exceed more than 4 feet from the shelter; it should be attached to the building with a wirelock type device. The wirelock is always attached higher than the shelter, to allow the snow to slide down.
- This shelter is not suitable for a smoking room.
- Important warning
The use of concrete blocks to anchor a temporary shelter on the ground involves certain risks.
We do not recommend the use of blocks on concrete surfaces, plain pavement or asphalt, because blocks will tend to move as if they were on a frozen surface, because of the friction of blocks on these surfaces. We notice this phenomenon especially during periods of big winds. The wind can lift the shelter and the blocks being fixed to the structure, the latter will fly away with the blocks. The structure will then be twisted and could move on a nearby ground and cause damages which could be considerable.
Please advise that it is impossible to guarantee total sealing of stitched tarp covered shelters.
